Without face mask against coronavirus

  • Without face mask against coronavirus

    12 June 2020 / 10:46

Tehran (ISNA) – According to officials of Iran’s Health Ministry, Khuzestan is one of the worst-hit provinces of Iran during the outbreak of the new coronavirus.
At the beginning of the outbreak, few people were following social distancing guidelines in the Province.
Currently, more people of Khuzestan wear face masks and disposable gloves, but there are still people who do not wear them.
There are people in this province worried about the outbreak but are forced to be outside their homes.
Although restrictions of the coronavirus were imposed in the province, people were being seen in the streets for shopping while not following social distancing guidelines.
As a result, the daily cases of the coronavirus are much higher in Khuzestan Province in comparison with other provinces of Iran.

Exclusive: Iran’s inflation may reach to 29%, World Bank

  • Exclusive: Iran’s inflation may reach to 29%, World Bank

World Bank in its report “global economic prospects” predicted -5.3% growth for Iran this year but it said the growth for the next year will be reach to 2.1 percent which means an end to 3 consecutive years of contraction.

The GDP projection is based on a baseline of a benign impact of COVID-19 on the Iranian economy. According to World Bank’s reply to ISNA, with oil production already at the lowest levels in decades, the majority of the economic contraction in 2020/21 is expected to be due to a decline in non-oil sector activity. The services sector (largest component of GDP) is expected to be broadly impacted, with sales (retail and whole) and transportation sectors disproportionately so. Agriculture output is expected to only be impacted moderately as demand for essential goods remain in place. On the industry side, manufacturing and construction are projected to be hardest hit due to simultaneous supply chain and demand shocks. The 2020/21 GDP growth projection differs from 2019/20 in which the majority of the decline in GDP was associated with a large contraction of oil GDP, itself driven by US sanctions.

Asked about the trend of inflation in the next months, World Bank said: “The reported recent downward trend in inflation is based on official data published by the Government of Iran. Our projections for inflation through 2020/21 see an increasing trend in inflationary pressures due to COVID-19 and exchange rate dynamics.it added:  We currently project average inflation for 2020/21 to reach 29 percent (up from the SCI reported 21 percent year-on-year in May).  The inflation projection hinges on the assumption that the projected fiscal deficit will be mainly financed through continued sales of government assets and bond issuance while at the same time CBI measures on controlling liquidity growth continue”.

“Given the uncertainty of the global economic context and Iran’s economy, the outlook is subject to downside risks and revisions as more information become available” added World Bank in its reply.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry rejects UN Secretariat"s anti-Iran allegations

  • Iran’s Foreign Ministry rejects UN Secretariat"s anti-Iran allegations

The Islamic Republic of Iran categorically rejects the allegations of the UN Secretariat, which is clearly under political pressure from the US and Saudi regimes, and expresses its deep concern over the abuse of the UN Secretariat for political purposes.

Here is the full text of the statement:

The Secretariat, based on an unusual interpretation of the UN Security Council Resolution 2231, has so far refrained from reporting on numerous violations by the United States and European States with respect to the UN Security Council Resolution 2231 and the JCPOA (Annex A to the Resolution), inter alia, the unlawful withdrawal of the United States from the JCPOA, which is a grave violation of Resolution 2231 and its subsequent illegal actions towards UN Security Council Resolution 2231 by re-imposition of sanctions.

While the Secretariat has treated with utmost tolerance and leniency towards these violations so far, it is now surprisingly engaged with an issue in which it has no authority to point out highly technical and legal findings, and its so-called technical report is in no way in line with the practical arrangements of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2231 to perform its functions.

Interestingly, the Secretariat"s report coincides with the US" move to propose a dangerous draft resolution that paves the way for extension of arms restrictions on Iran in an illegal way; and yet more surprisingly, the content of this report is used by the US two weeks prior to its official release. The aforementioned fact creates the impression that the report has been prepared under direction of the United States and to be used in the efforts of that State in the Security Council against Iran.

Levelling accusations against other states using self-created processes and arbitrary procedures is a dangerous heresy, which is not accepted by the international community. Such dictated processes will cause severe damage to the credibility and undermine the integrity of the United Nations. Preparing a report with political motives never changes the facts on tye ground, and it is obvious to everyone that the current situation in the region is a direct result of the wrong policies of the United States and the child-murderer regime of Saudi Arabia. How is it that the UN Secretary-General refuses to take into consideration the sale of lethal weapons to Saudi Arabia, the use of which against the defenceless people of Yemen is indisputable, but rather, he is sending his investigation teams to search through Saudi waste materials to provide evidence for US baseless claims?

Undoubtedly, such reports will not only fail to help bring peace and security to the region and implement the UN resolutions, but will also completely destroy the credibility and reputation of the United Nations.

The Islamic Republic of Iran strongly recommends that the UN Secretariat not move in the pre-planned US scenario to prevent the lifting of Iran"s arms restrictions and not assist a violating State in this dangerous process by circulating such unlawful reports. The United States itself is the gravest violator of Security Council Resolution 2231, and no one can clear the name of that State from systematic violations of international rules.
